Due in part to growing competion from countries like Kenya and Ecuador, SCRADH (Syndicat du centre régional d'application et de démonstration horticole) was formed to help growers stay competitive. They assist growers by developing and testing non-chemical methods of pest control, new crop varieties, and other innovations like water pipes run just beneath the soil in order to keep it at an optimal temperature.
The open day event began with a tour of some of the many greenhouses in Hyères. Gerbera are the relatively flat flowers used to color and cover parade floats.
