Liaison - French Grammar + Pronunciation Glossary

Definition: A liaison is the phenomenon whereby a normally silent consonant at the end of a word is pronounced at the beginning of the word that follows it. Note that liaison is not the same thing as enchaînement.

Types of liaisons:

   liaison obligatoire - required liaison

   liaison facultative - optional liaison

   liaison interdite - forbidden liaison
