Hiatus - French Grammar + Pronunciation Glossary

Definition: In pronunciation, the phenomenon of two consecutive vowel sounds within a word or between words. In French, it is often desirable to avoid hiatus with one of several euphonic techniques.

Examples:

   créer - cré / er

   avouer - avou / er

   tu as eu - tu / as / eu

   si on - si / on
