Definition: In pronunciation, the concept of agreeable or harmonious sound. When speaking French, there are certain rules that sounds must be added or words changed in order to maintain an agreeable sequence of sounds.

Types of and reasons for euphony:

Contractions - to avoid hiatus

Enchaînement - to increase musicality

Liaisons - to avoid hiatus

L' in front of on - see l'on lesson

T in inversion (a-t-il) - to avoid hiatus

Special adjective forms (beau > bel) - to avoid hiatus
