Definition: The past infinitive is a compound tense that describes an action that occurred before another action when the subject of both actions is the same.

Formation: Infinitive auxiliary verb + past participle

Examples:

Après avoir vu Luc, j'ai souri.
After seeing Luc, I smiled.

Il a regretté d'être venu seul à Paris.
He regretted coming to Paris alone.
