Definition: Number indicates whether parts of speech are singular (singulier) or plural (pluriel).

Purposes:

1) For subject pronouns: number (along with person) determines who or what is performing the action of the verb.

2) For nouns: indicates the number that the adjectives, articles, and pronouns that modify them must have.
