Definition: The person or thing to/for whom the action of a verb is occurring. In French, the indirect object is often found after a preposition, either stated or implied.

Examples:

Il a donné le livre à David.
He gave David the book.

Il lui a donné le livre.
He gave him the book / He gave the book to him.
