Adjective - Adjectif - French Grammar + Pronunciation Glossary

By Laura K. Lawless, About.com

Definition: An adjective is a word that indicates a quality of a noun or pronoun. Adjectives can describe shape, color, size, and many other things about a noun, and must always agree in gender and number with the noun that they modify.

You can tell if something is an adjective if it can fill in the blank in at least one of the following sentences without adding any other words:

The _____ toy is mine (blue, big, broken)
That's a(n) _____ idea (good, outrageous, stupid,)
I am _____ (for example: happy, sick, tired)
