The intermediate-level French novelette Parce que je t'aime and its sequel L'amour par internet recount the romantic exploits of a teenage boy from Pau, a town located in the foothills of the Pyrénées.
Parce que je t'aime
Computer-loving Bruno, aged 15, gets caught in a mess of his own making after arranging dates with different girls at the same time. Teen Readers level 1 (400 different words).
L'amour par internet
Parce que je t'aime's sequel finds Bruno dealing with another misadventure of love - this time on the internet. L'amour par internet is slightly more difficult - Teen Readers level 2 (850 different words).
Teen Readers
Parce que je t'aime and L'amour par internet are part of the charmingly-illustrated Teen Readers series of French novelettes written for foreign language learners aged 10-17 (though this adult found the stories compelling and ideally suited for anyone interested in reading a relatively easy French book). The series is divided into five levels of difficulty based on the number of different words used in the book. The language is authentic and consistent for the level and the more difficult vocabulary is explained either in French or with an illustration. Despite the different Teen Readers labels for Parce que je t'aime and L'amour par internet, I'd say they're both right at intermediate level.
