Restaurants in Paris

In February 2006, some friends and I spent four days eating our way around Paris. Here are the restaurants we liked - maybe you will too. Bon appétit !


Chez moi ou chez toi

Cute, intimate place with creative, tasty food. The name is to be taken literally: we were asked to exchange bisous with the waiter/co-owner and to tutoie him. (I enjoyed this while my French friend was unimpressed).

Excellent, somewhat formal Italian restaurant with a phenomenal wine cellar. Great pasta and truffle risotto, and by far the best tiramisu I've ever eaten. (When I told the owner that, he said "but it's our wine that is really special.") Our waiter was extremely playful, which again I found charming but my French friend didn't.

Interesting place with books all over the walls and jazz on the stereo, near Notre-Dame. We had a nice lunch (quiche, soup, chèvre salad with grilled figs) and our service was fine, but several of the tables around us had problems because there were at least a dozen tables and only one waiter, and a laid-back one at that.

Very nice Greek restaurant in the 5th arrondissement. The Greek salad was excellent, and the "vegetarian moussaka" (stuffed eggplant) was very good too. Others in my group enjoyed traditional moussaka, onion soup, and fish soup. The lunch menus were 9 and 13 euros, and we couldn't really figure out the difference between them as the number of courses and most of the options were the same.

Traditional French restaurant, very good food (escargots, grilled fish, pot-au-feu, etc.) There was however some oddness with the waiters - we placed our order with one, but then two of my friends decided to add on a beer and asked another waiter for it. From that point on, the two seemed to be competing to serve us.
