The Collage
French Program
includes a variety of resources for intermediate French students. The heart
of the program consists of three main textbooks. Révision de grammaire is
an excellent intermediate-level grammar book. Its
explanations are clear, and there are plenty of examples and practice
exercises. The Variétés culturelles book
includes more than 20 articles about francophone cultures culled from
authentic texts (e.g., books, newspapers) which are enhanced by pre- and
post-reading exercises. The third book, Lectures
littéraires, is made up of literary texts from around the
francophone world, with tips on improving reading skills and
understanding literature.
Collage includes several additional
elements, which I have not reviewed: an interactive writing program, a
French-English dictionary on CD-ROM, a workbook/laboratory manual, audio
cassette/CD program (with separate editions for student and teacher), an
instructor's manual, an audioscript, and a video.
