Top French Tools
Recommended resources for every French lover
The following pages include links to the best French tools around. I've broken up Francophiles and Francophones into six main categories: kids; beginning, intermediate, and advanced students; translators; and teachers. For the first five categories, I put together a page of my favorite tools and resources, so if you are in one of these categories, take a look at these pages for ideas. If you are a French teacher, use the page that corresponds to the age/level of your students.
Each list has an assortment of different kinds of resources, including some or all of the following: dictionaries, grammar books, audio resources, software, movies, and interesting non-fiction.

Tools for Beginning Students
A selection of resources for beginning students, including a dictionary, a few grammar selections, a video, an extensive tape/CD program, and some non-fiction to distract and reinspire students when fatigue or irritation sets in. |
French Tools for Kids
Kids won't be happy with some dull, text-only grammar book - they need pictures, sounds, and interaction. I've scoured the internet for fun and interesting resources for kids - here are my favorites. |

Tools for Intermediate Students
Here is an assortment of tools to meet intermediate students' needs: grammar references; dictionaries; and audio resources, for listening and pronunciation work. |
Tools for Translators
Maybe more than anyone else, translators need good tools. These are the translation books without which I simply could not work. |
|
Tools for Advanced Students It's essential for advanced students to use authentic, French-only materials: a grammar book with explanations in French, a French-only dictionary, and plenty of French audio. These tools are created by (and often for) native French speakers. |
Gifts for Francophiles Wondering what to buy for the French lover on your list? Someone who really loves French probably already has a good dictionary and grammar book, so here are some gifts that will thrill your favorite Francophile. |
