| Au fil des mois, Champs-Élysées vous brosse un portrait de Paris au travers de ses clichés célèbres. Nous vous proposons aujourd'hui d'aller boire un petit noir au café d'en face. Nicolas Fréret s'est penché sur les bistrots* parisiens, lieux aussi populaires qu'incontournables. Boudés et délaissés par les jeunes au début des années [19]90, parce que trop chers et pas assez accueillants, ils ont été nombreux à mettre la clé sous la porte. Après une remise en cause forcée, les bistrotiers ont engagé une grande métamorphose pour redynamiser cette institution sociale. | Over the [last few] months, Champs-Élysées has been painting you a picture of Paris through its famous images. Today we suggest going to have a black coffee at the café across the street. Nicolas Fréret has been looking into Parisian bistros, places that are as popular as they are unmissable. Young people gave them the cold shoulder and abandoned them in the early 90's because they were too expensive and not welcoming enough, [thus] many of them went out of business. After being forced into a critical reappraisal, the bistro owners underwent a major transformation to give a new boost to this social institution. |
| Pendant plus de cent ans, ce sont les Auvergnats* qui servaient le café et les pintes de bière sur le zinc des bistrots parisiens. Leurs descendants ne gèrent plus aujourd'hui que quarante pour cent des établissements de la capitale, poussés vers la sortie par la mode du bar design, un concept inventé dans les années 80 par les frères Costes* – Jean-Louis et Gilbert –, qui ont été largement imités depuis. | Dans ces cafés, le service est en général très, très amical. C'est-à-dire que souvent, vous arrivez, le patron – ou le garçon* – vous fait une bise. Si vous venez trois fois, vous êtes connu. Donc, c'est des lieux d'accueil, de rencontre. Et on a vu venir dans ce quartier des gens qui ne venaient jamais. C'est-à-dire que le café est devenu une attraction en soi. Et du coup, tous les cafés du coin se sont rénovés. Ce qui est intéressant, c'est qu'aujourd'hui, les cafés sont mixtes par moments de la journée. | In these cafés, the service is generally very, very friendly. Le soir et puis dans la journée, il y a des touristes, alors que le Petit Suisse c'est un tout petit café, on se demande comment ça se fait, mais bon, voilà. Il y a les gens qui font une pause avant d'aller prendre le RER, sans compter les étudiants qui arrivent de la Sorbonne, qui sont pas très loin. Donc, en fait, ce mélange, il continue à exister. |
In the evening and then during the day, there are tourists, since the Petit Suisse is a very small café, you wonder how they do it, but well, there you go.
