Les Chèvres
Pendant notre randonnée entre l'Augstbordpass et St. Niklaus nous avons rencontré des chèvres qui étaient très bizarres. Elles avaient des cornes robustes et des barbiches noires et de longs pelages. |
The Goats During our hike between Augstbordpass and St. Niklaus we encountered some goats that were very bizarre. They had strong horns and black beards and long fur. |
| Mais la raison pour laquelle elles étaient intéressantes, c'était que la moitié avant de leur corps était noire et la moitié arrière était blanche avec une séparation distincte entre les deux couleurs à mi-corps. Cette race de chèvre s'appelle « la chèvre col noir du Valais » et aussi quelquefois « la chèvre des glaciers ». Les Suisses les élèvent pour la viande et les produits laitiers. | But the reason they were interesting was that the front half of their body was black and the rear half was white with a distinct separation between the two colors in the middle of their body. This species of goat is called the "Valais Blackneck" and also sometimes the "Glacier Goat." The Swiss raise them for meat and dairy products. |
| Nous avons rencontré pas mal de chèvres sur le chemin au-dessus de Jengen. La plupart étaient gentilles, mais nous avons dû insister gentiment mais fermement pour qu'elles se poussent. Ensuite alors nous étions en train de déjeuner au Café Dupont à Zermatt, un troupeau est passé devant nous : elles allaient au pâturage pour la nuit. Le lendemain matin le gardien de troupeau a fait redescendre les chèvres dans la rue principale pour les faire travailler comme tondeuses dans un champ pour la journée. Les chèvres portaient une clochette autour du cou, donc c'était très bruyant chaque fois qu'elles passaient… Entre ça et le son de la cloche du clocher du village, la vie n'est pas si tranquille dans les montagnes suisses. | We met quite a number of goats on the path above Jengen. Most were nice, but we had to insist gently but firmly that they move. Then while we were eating lunch at the Café Dupont in Zermatt, a herd passed by in front of us. They were going to their pasture for the night. The next morning the goat herder took the goats back down the main road so they could work as a lawnmower in a field for the day. The goats wore a bell around their neck, so it was very noisy each time they passed by… Between that and the sound of the bell in the village clock tower, life is not so quiet in the Swiss Mountains. |
