Q: I'm going to a French-speaking country for only a few days. Should I bother trying to learn any French?
A. I definitely think it is a good idea to learn some French, as much as possible, even though you will only be there for a short time. Imagine how you would feel if a person came to your country and spoke no English but expected you to speak their language. Learning some French before you go will demonstrate that you respect the French people and their culture.
Although quite a few French speak English, they do not like it and they will be more welcoming if you make an effort to speak to them in their language.
