By Laura K. Lawless, About.com

If you use Internet Explorer and Windows 95 or later, you can immerse yourself a bit more in French by setting up your browser to display menus and dialog boxes in French.
Difficulty: Easy
Time Required: 10-20 minutes

Here's How:

  1. Go to Microsoft's Windows Update page.
  2. Click "Product Updates."
  3. Wait while your computer downloads the Product Updates Catalogue - this may take several minutes.
  4. Scroll down to "International Language Support."
  5. Check the box for "French Menus and Dialogs for Internet Explorer."
  6. Scroll back up to the top and click "Download."
  7. Follow the download and installation instructions.
  8. When installation is complete, go to Start - Settings - Control Panel - Internet Options.
  9. Click "Languages."
  10. Next to "Menus and dialog boxes are currently displayed in (your language)," click "Change."
  11. Choose French and click "OK."
  12. Click "OK" on the Language Preference Screen.
  13. Click "OK" on the Internet Options Screen.
  14. Your browser's buttons, menus, and dialog boxes will now be in French!

Tips:

  1. After clicking OK, the French may not show up until the next time you open your browser.
  2. If you use Outlook Express, its menus and dialog boxes will automatically be changed to French also.
