I certainly appreciate your messages. Retired French High School after teaching 25 years. Suffered from aphasia and brain virus. Recovered within a month and I still hope to continue my french..I got a master’s degree from Middlebury college in Vermont. So, even though my brother has a doctorat from the same place, I would enjoy continuing my French
My primary goal is to able to read French. This program is just perfect for enabling me to reach that goal. Perhaps in my next lifetime I’ll have the opportunity to speak French. This way I’ll be ahead of the game.
I have learned Italian on my own, this awaken a curiosity to see the relationship between all the Romance languages, so French was the next step, of course Portuguese and Spanish are also on the radar. When I travel to Europe I will most likely fly Air France, so just in case they do not feel like speaking English, I will be ready for them. I can not forget to mention I also like German. I LOVE LEARNING LANGUAGES!
I have had a fixation with France since beginning to read around 5yrs old. Stories like A Tale of two Cities,The Scarlet Pmpernel always interested me. But because I am Irish I always supported the French side in spite of the anti French bias of the Stories from an English perspective. I always knew the Revolution was the right thing to do and the Terror although terrible was quite understandable because of the threats from the Monarchists theEnglish and their Allies. That was when I was a child of around 12 and the fixation continued.
Unfortunately I never learned French as a child coming from an average working class area of Dublin where everything was just basic and also Nationalistic too. Times change and there is a better attitude in the School system now but way to late for me since I left school back in the late 1960ties.
I am trying to catch up on my knowledge of the French Language since a few years ago and have done a basic French Course and am still trying to add to it on a daily basis. I can read French fairly successfully without problems and look up the occasional word I do not know . I also have a French Canadian friend that I correspond with and she sends me some reading material occasionally and we have brief conversations as well. So all things are good,I learn it because I enjoy reading it and for Holidays.
