The
carnavalesque parade is probably the most famous part of Carnaval, but the
bataille de fleurs is just as interesting. To show off some of the region's prettiest assets,* flower-covered floats carry young women who toss mimosa branches to the crowd. After the first pass is complete and the mimosa are all gone, the floats go around for a second lap and the women gradually dismantle the floats, tossing roses, orchids, ranuncula, and dozens of other varieties of flowers to the spectators.
