About “avoir l’air de”: Is this phrase reserved to persons or does it apply to things as well, as in “this car looks new”?

That’s a good question. No, it’s not reserved for people. I’ve heard Ce gâteau a l’air bon and Cette histoire a l’air intéressant.

J’ai un doute que je voulais bien éclaircir. Selon le dictionnaire en ligne “la rousse” , l’accord de l’adjectif est facultatif quand il s’agit de noms de personnes. Par ex: Elle a l’air intelligent (e). Mais vous avez precise le contraire : l’adjectif reste toujours masculin. Cela reste ambigu.
