Google Doodle - Jean de La Fontaine
Today's Google Doodle is a tribute to Jean de La Fontaine, the beloved French poet who was born on 8 July 1621. Bon anniversaire !

La Fontaine is best known for his Fables Choisies, and the Doodle is a lovely drawing of "Le Lièvre et la Tortue" (The Hare and the Tortoise), including the moral of the fable: Rien ne sert de courir ; il faut partir à point. This French proverb literally means "There's no point in running; you have to leave on time," but the equivalent English proverb is "Slow and steady wins the race."

The equivalent English proverb should be “A stitch iin time saves nine”, though it wouldn’t complement the story.
