Advise and consent. Opinion is always a social phenomenon. We form our opinions with advice and interaction from others (even the most independent-minded among us).
I was looking for a way to remember the phrase. The various other uses of the word “avis” that I found in the “dico” helped me form this opinion about the word.

Hello Laura, thank you for your newsletters. I am a late-in-life beginner in French and I so appreciate them and find lots that I would not otherwise even hear about like ‘à mon avis’.
Silly, I know, but having your newsleterrs is like having a friend.Thank you again.

I find many unusual Phrases and meanings in your Lessons also a different play on well known Words. I enjoy Reading your Newsletters and also the many Places of interest in France especially. I have seen this in French Newspapers a lot á mon Avis and I always thought it meant my Information when Replying to an article about something.

So this clears up a lot of misconceptions, Thanks very much you learn a bit every Day.

Thank you Laura for the information re A mon avis.

Can this expression be freely interchaged with d’après moi, d’après lui, etc.?

Araydan – yes, pretty much. À mon avis = In my opinion. D’après moi = According to me.
