Fun with French: Top 10 French Gestures

My lessons on French gestures are among the most popular pages on my site, partly because gestures are so frequently used when speaking French, and partly because many gestures are not commonly taught in French classes. Among the dozens of gestures and facial expressions in my lessons, there are ten that really stand out.

Are the bises exchanged by the French real kisses or more in the way of air-smacks? Is there actual lip-cheek contact?

Peter – In my experience, it’s usually cheek pressed lightly to cheek, but every so often someone actually kisses me, lip-to-cheek. I don’t remember it ever actually being air kisses, where there was no physical contact at all.

It’s actually a very quick kiss, most of the time air kisses. It also depends on the person you kiss. Some people are more tactile and there might be more contact this you never know before kissing. But it’s definetely very quick.
