Le Clos Romain
The ugly, concrete Centr'Alp techological park is located in the southeastern part of the town of Moirans (in the Isère department). We had no reason to be there, but it was lunchtime and we were starving. After searching all over for a restaurant for 15 minutes, we were astonished but delighted to arrive at L'Auberge du Clos Romain (literally, "The Inn of the Roman Field").
Originally an 18th century farm, today the inn is a restaurant and conference center. The inside rooms can hold 100 people and the shaded terrace another hundred. While the interior design is contemporary, the food is traditional but creative. The wine menu is also impressive - many choices by the bottle and by the glass, and there's no plonk even among the cheapest.
Once inside the site, which is surrounded by trees and offers a nice view of the Alps, it was difficult to believe that were were still inside a technological park. The grassy yard (or "garden," for UK English speakers) is truly a haven of peace - it's the perfect spot for a special celebration. This is one of the great things about France - you often find terrific restaurants in unexpected places.

Thank you for another one of your interesting and informative descriptions, as usual. One question, please. In your photo of the entrance to the restaurant, the menu board gives the price of the meal, but it’s written in *that* European way. What price is that actually? I’d guess 11,00 euros. Is that right?

Hi Laura,
In the first paragraph where you’ve made the translation “We had no reason to be there, but it was lunchtime and we were starving”, is there any reason why in the French version of this sentence you used the pronoun ‘on’ rather than ‘nous’, which I thought was normally the translation of ‘we’?
