I always like to read about schools and their language programs - are they shrinking or growing? Apparently it's all of the above.
In today's news, I read about two elementary schools in New Hampshire which offer French and Spanish from first grade on, thanks to Foreign Language Assistance Program grants from the U.S. Department of Education (source: School gets grant for new teacher).
Meanwhile, budget cuts have led high schools in Oregon to drop all language programs except Spanish (source: Schools offer fewer foreign languages).
There's something really wrong with this picture, if you ask me - what good does it do to offer more language to kids yet less to teens?
Inspiration: Why learn French?
